When Needing Brushes

In 1958, with a small building, three employees and a few basic machines, Ken Sanderson and Bruce MacLeod founded Sanderson MacLeod, Inc. in Palmer, Massachusetts. From the beginning, the company focused on producing twisted wire (also known as spiral) brushes for OEM customers. Such clients included Singer Sewing Machines and Remington electric razors.

 

Sanderson MacLeod Invents the Mascara Brush

Within a year, and at the request of a Hollywood make-up artist, Sanderson MacLeod developed and manufactured the first mascara brush. The twisted wire mascara brush soon became an industry standard and was widely developed by major cosmetic companies.

 

Industrial and Gun Cleaning Brushes Introduced

Constant innovation and demand for Sanderson MacLeod twisted wire brushes led to further expansion. In the early 1960’s, Sanderson MacLeod, Inc. purchased another brush maker - Better Brushes. With its new capabilities, the company began manufacturing twisted wire gun brushes and spiral general purpose cleaning brushes for companies such as Smith and Wesson, Colt and American Home Products.

 

Leaders in Disposable Medical Brushes

During the 1980’s and 1990’s, under the direction of owner and current CEO Eric Sanderson, Sanderson MacLeod further diversified. Utilizing the latest automated equipment and working closely with key medical suppliers, Sanderson MacLeod quickly became an industry leader in the design and manufacture of disposable medical brushes. Such products include endoscopic brushes, cytology brushes, medical equipment cleaning brushes, medical stylets and guide wires.

Sanderson MacLeod remains dedicated to providing their customers with the finest twisted wire brush products available. As new applications for twisted wire brushes emerge, Sanderson MacLeod remains focused on providing solutions that are effective, affordable and highly dependable.
